What are the chances of life existing in the Universe? Well, since we are here, the answer is obviously 100%. Probably the questions most people want to answer are:
How common is life in the Universe?
Would life on other planets be similar to life on Earth?
Could humans ever contact other intelligent species in the Galaxy?
In this study unit, we will explore those and other questions. We will first focus on our immediate surroundings: Earth and the Solar System. We will examine what life is and what living organisms need to survive. We will also ponder if other intelligent life forms exist in the Galaxy, how we can find them, and if we could communicate.
The following concept diagram offers some graphical links between topics we will explore in this unit. The numbers with the information icon indicate textbook chapters pertaining to that topic.
